Sugar Bowl Restaurant

I am so glad that the owners of this restaurant have nevertheless stored this signal up at night following many years, and mild it up at evening! The ‘cocktails’ and ‘restaurant’ indications along the side of the building are a wonderful touch, far too.
Took this as element of a Metra trip to Des Plaines for the duration of the summer season.

Dining establishments question by Ladien: What restaurants serve red snapper in Chicago?
My mom’s been craving red snapper for a few weeks, so I desired to shock her to a beautiful red snapper meal in a restaurant… But I have no thought what restaurants serve it. Do you know of any in Chicago or surrounding suburbs?

Shaw’s Crab Home has two places & they should have red snapper.
Thanks for sending me a link to your photo! The place looks even cooler at night.
Passed by this last night, and it was closed at 7:30, on a Wednesday. Saw a "We have new hours" sign – but from the way things were going the last time I was in there, I don’t think the newest management of the Sugar Bowl know, what is the expression – their heads from their asses.
The Korean family running it (c.2004) didn’t do a fabulous job, but at least the wait staff were efficient and generally ok with how management was treating them. Then the SB closed when the Koreans, I dunno, gave up? The place was closed for a good few months, and then reopened without any fuss.
A month ago I picked up some books from the library across the SB and stopped in for a coffee and something to eat; and was dismayed at how terrible the place had become. Service was worse than any of the times I’ve been there. There were three goombahs micromanaging the smallest detail. The wait staff were flustered and one was having an argument with one of them right there, not five feet from were I was sitting, waiting 15 minutes to get even a glass of water.
I’ll be in the area again sometime this week, I’ll bring a cam and snap some photos. Maybe I’ll even come in for a quick bite. We’ll see what’s up with the SB.
interesting that ownership did change a few years ago. i didn’t realize that, so i’ll guess this accounts for why the dining area of the restaurant looked different. and also, when i shot this pic last summer, why i suspected the interior of that section of the restaurant had been renovated within the last few years(i see i was right about that).
too bad to hear the service isn’t as good as i’d suspect, based on your account(but thanks for posting that!). maybe one of these days, i’ll actually dine here for myself and finally see how it is. lol, this is among quite a few places i’ve always wanted to dine at in Chicagoland, anyhow.
I Drove by the Sugar Bowl on 3-13-10 The neon signs reading COCKTAILS – RESTAURANT have been removed from the front of the building.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/9385421@N08] I noticed the cocktails and restaurant signs were gone, the last time I went by here. I may have an older daytime shot of this sign somewhere, but we’ll see.
Last time I was in Des Plaines a few months ago, I reshot the sign, with the updated facade(for the worse) on the Sugar Bowl Restaurant building. More as a ‘then and now’ comparison, than anything else.
THe script letters are anchored to the lower section with the bulbs. Its all one piece. The sign facing the parking lot was still there last time I was up there.
